Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Raising Shell 2007
Director: Kevin Munroe
Starring: Chris Evans, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Laurence Fishburne, Patrick Stewart,
After fourteen years, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back for the new millennium. After the defeat of their arch-nemesis, Shredder, the four brothers have grown apart as a family and their sensei, Master Splinter, struggles to keep the unity which was there once before. An army of ancient creatures threatens the city of New York, but can the turtles reunite in time to face the evil and save the day once more?
Based on the fantastic, childhood franchise that was the cartoon series, this film is the follow-up to the successful live action film. Most of us have come across the fictional story about the four pizza-loving reptiles that save the day from the evil Shredder under the direction of a rat. TMNT is a fresh, new take on this old story but now computer animated and much more exciting to watch. The new animation makes for exhilarating scenes with the addition of the old comic charm associated with the original series.
If that’s not enough to get you going, then maybe the a-list stars will. Sarah Michelle Gellar really suits the role of April, taking us back to her days as Buffy, the pretty, innocent looking girl who is still able to turn around and kick butt. Chris Evans, just after doing a stint in the Fantastic Four films, plays yet another comic-book rogue, lovable character that is Casey Jones. Munroe maybe unknown in the film world, but his experience in video games gives the film the edge needed to entertain any technology enthusiast. The final product will surely not disappoint the fan-base built up decades ago.
The film is an enjoyable break back to one’s childhood that will have you shouting ‘Go Raphael! Go Donatello! Go Michealangelo! Go Leonardo! Go Turtles!’ with your equally mature mates cheering beside you.
