Review:

What do you do when everyone else in your circle of friends has kids? Get your own! Well that’s what Jason (Scott) and Julie (Westfeldt) decide to do. It doesn’t matter that they’re not together or plan to ever be together. What’s childbirth between two completely platonic friends? This way they get to date other people and still have children, right? Surely that can only be a good thing...

Recipe for disaster? Clearly. But that’s what audiences want to see! And it’s done well. Jennifer Westfeldt is a particular hit. Not only is she the solo writer and director of the film but she is also the lead actress so, of course, knows her character inside and out. Her opposing lead actor, Adam Scott also is a breakout performer, playing a difficult character in a very sincere way. And as for the rest of the cast? You may recognise them from smash-hit Bridesmaids: John Hamm, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig and Chris O’Dowd, although here we see them all playing very different roles. There is even an appearance by the popular Megan Fox.

A 'grown-up' comedy, Friends With Kids makes the best use of adult humour. Similar to Bridesmaids, the script's witty banter and the identifiable struggles of the thirty-something characters immediately hook an audience. This is definitely one to get all the friends together for!
