Fast and Furious 6
All roads lead to this
After their successful takedown of a drug kingpin’s empire, Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and his crew have each gone their separate ways, still on the run from the law. But Dom is soon tracked down by Agent Hobbs (Johnson) who needs his help to take out a rival crew masterminded by Shaw (Evans), a ruthless man very much Dom’s opposite. However, Dom isn’t interested, until he learns that his supposedly dead love Letty (Rodriguez) is very much alive and working alongside Shaw. Determined to bring Letty back home, and with pardons assured if they succeed, Dom reassembles his crew one more time to take on his biggest challenge yet.
Fast and Furious 6 is the latest entry in the long running action/racing franchise which has the rare distinction of the various sequels improving over one another, something Fast and Furious 6 happily continues to do, making its predecessor, Fast Five, look slow and lethargic by comparison. It knows it’s a big action blockbuster and is happy to provide the requisite chases, explosions and fights, just on a scale most other films can’t achieve, which easily elevates it to the top of the pack.
The acting in these films has never been the standout feature, but the performances are once again solid. Vin Diesel is back in gruff form as car thief turned reluctant hero Dominic, Dwayne Johnson continues to impress as the hard-as-nails Hobbs, but the standout is Luke Evans as the slimy, amoral villainous Shaw.
Let’s be honest: no-one should come to see Fast and Furious 6 if they’re expecting Oscar nomination calibre faire. But if you’re looking for fast cars, stuff going boom and people punching the living daylights out of one another, you won’t go wrong with Fast and Furious 6.
