Review:

He gave us his word that he would return, and now he has! Thor, the mighty Avenger, is back on the big screen in Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World.

After Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) inadvertently awakens the terrible forces of the Dark Elves, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), our favourite deeply voiced, gold-tressed, Nordic hero must sacrifice everything to find a way to save us all. Thor brings Jane to the safety of Asgard to protect her, but upon doing this, he brings more than just Jane to his world, putting Earth and all the nine realms in terrible danger. Thor must seek the help of his imprisoned brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), and the two are bound together on the same journey with the same goal. They must fight to restore order across the cosmos as the vengeful Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. But can the two brothers work together to prevent disaster which could result in the very fabric of reality being torn apart?

Director Alan Taylor embraces the fantasy roots of the franchise, concentrating less on Earth and more on Thor’s world, particularly the amazing and dangerous land of Asgard. The scenery, costumes and special effects are stunning and some excellent battles ensue between Thor and the Malekith. The writers have worked hard to bridge this tale in to the new Avengers movie but this film also offers plenty of humour and high-stakes action, with exciting and entertaining results. A must see for any Marvel-buff!
