Trainwreck
We all know one
Raised on the mantra ‘monogamy isn’t realistic’, Amy (Amy Schumer – Inside Amy Schumer) is used to doing whatever she wants, and what she’d never do is waste time chasing love. Men are just a fun way to waste time but you’d never want to date one of them! Fate, however, intervenes and when assigned to interview sports doctor, Aaron (Bill Hader – Superbad), she feels an instant rapport with him and curiously, he seems intent on dating her… In an interesting divergence from the genre, most of the humour is not based on awkward situations or one-liners but in the interaction and natural chemistry of the leads. This is perhaps to be expected from the director Judd Apatow, who directed such films as Knocked Up and Funny People. Playing a more grounded and down-to-earth character than his smaller roles in Superbad, Tropic Thunder or Night at the Museum, Bill Hader still knows how to tickle the funny bone. Brie Larson (21 Jump Street, Scott Pilgrim, Green Berg) is also excellent in her role as Amy’s daughter Kim, a level head despite her mother’s constant barbs against Kim’s husband. For a rom-com with a different feel, alllll aboard! Natalie Tyldesley-Marshall
