Review:

After settling in Green Hills and accepting Earth as his new home, Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz – Parks and Recreation) wants to keep using his powers to help others and prove that he can be a hero. However, Sonic’s best friend Tom (James Marsden – X-Men / Westworld) fears that in stopping armed robberies, Sonic is being too reckless and should wait until there comes a time when his powers are truly needed. That time is far sooner than either of them realise…

Brilliant roboticist and evil genius Dr Robotnik (Jim Carrey – Ace Ventura) has been freed from his exile by an echidna warrior, Knuckles (Idris Elba – Avengers / Luther), with powers that rival Sonic’s own. Not only that, but he’s discovered that a source of power capable of destroying humanity is hidden on Earth, and will do anything to get his hands on it!

Meanwhile a certain two-tailed orange fox has been tracking and observing Sonic since the first film, sees the peril and offers to help. Sonic must trust his new friend Tails as they team up on a globetrotting adventure to find the emerald before Robotnik does, and save the world…

With the same director, and cast, this film continues the tone from the first – full of action, heart and wise cracks. Jim Carrey absolutely relishes his role, though Idris Elba is a brilliant contrast and nails his deadpan lines.
