Review:

At once fantastical and highly grounded, this is based around exhausted Chinese-American laundrette owner, Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh – Shang Chi / Star Trek Discovery) reaching breaking point. Her highly traditional father, who has always looked down on her choice of husband and to move to America, is visiting her family. Still craving his approval, she's forcing her daughter (Stephanie Hsu - The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) back into the closet and tensions are high.

Facing an audit of her taxes (including a karaoke machine claimed as a business expense!) triggers something in Evelyn, and she finds that she is increasingly able to access the thousand of different versions of herself across the multiverse! With focus, she can feel their emotions, access their memories, and even their skills. However, her powers are not unique. There is a great evil threatening to tear reality apart, and she might be the only one that can stop it…

Jamie Lee Curtis (Knives Out / Halloween) is almost unrecognisable as a tax auditor, gleefully wielding the little power that she has over desperate small business owners; though is just one of a top-notch cast. Madcap and frenzied, this inventive film is hilarious and surprisingly touching.
