FREE FOR MEMBERS: La chimera
La chimera is a difficult film to describe, in the best way possible, but I’ll do my best. It follows Arthur (Josh O’Connor; Challengers), an archaeologist-turned-grave-robber living in Italy, who has just been released from prison. Soon, he finds himself forced to reunite with his old group of fellow tombaroli tomb robbers in order to pay off a debt to the mysterious Spartaco, who purchases the goods they find.
To say too much more would be to ruin it, so I won’t. But of course, there’s much more to it than meets the eye. La chimera blurs the lines between dream and reality, life and death, past and present, and keeps you absolutely spellbound the entire time. With its strange and memorable cast of characters, its soundtrack ranging from Mozart to Kraftwerk, and its stunning visuals, it’s easily one of the best films of this year, and one you definitely shouldn’t miss.
