Review:

After slipping through a mirror, Alice (Mia Wasikowska) finds herself back in Wonderland with her friends who tell her that the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) is in a funk over the loss of his family. Hoping to save his loved ones, Alice steals the Chronosphere from Time (Sacha Baron Cohen) to travel into the past. While there, she encounters the younger Hatter and the evil Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter). In this sequel, you get a bit more information about different characters and their background which allows us to understand them better and appreciate their unique quirkiness. Tim Burton is no longer here, but his unique visual style still remains and means in fact that the film is never less than visually compelling, with both its brilliant CGI and the way it makes actors like Johnny Depp feel part of Wonderland. This feeling is complemented further by a typically whimsical score by Danny Elfman whose music can help change weirdness into a thing of beauty. Overall, this is a brilliant film that takes you away from reality.
