Review:

The latest from the producers of Get Out, Death Day, The Purge, Paranormal Activity – the list goes on… Set in the near future, when their self-driving car crashes, Grey’s (Logan Marshall-Green – Prometheus) wife is attacked and murdered by technologically enhanced muggers. He wants justice but unfortunately, he’s been left a quadriplegic. Not that this stops him from searching for them in all the seediest bars, in all the most dangerous parts of town…

Help comes, however, in the form of a tiny microchip. Once attached to his spinal column, it can work the muscles that he can’t. Now stronger, faster, more agile – he’s been upgraded! One slight catch is that STEM – the reason he can walk again - is a separate system that he has to give orders to, or can ask to temporarily take control of his body. There’s a slight lag, but it does mean that he’s now an invincible fighting machine, and can finally take on his wife’s killers…

The director Leigh Whannell (Insidious 3) draws on his experience in horror to create this unique combination of action-thriller and scifi/horror, blending them together and putting his own spin on it to create a truly enjoyable cinematic experience.
