Se7en
Seven deadly sins. Seven ways to die.
This is a thriller to rival Silence of the Lambs in tension; Hannibal in gore and sheer style. The characters are complex and three-dimensional, with Freeman cool and calculating as the experienced cop, Pitt headstrong and angry as the rookie, but both with something to learn from each other.
Spacey is chilling as the perpetrator, reveling in the weaknesses of his pursuers and exploring both the bigotry of religious zeal and the vacuity of our modern secular society. The ending's a bit special too.
Fight Club, The Game. Just some of David Fincher's other work. Se7en sits well in such company.
