Review: Se7en tells the story of John Doe, a serial killer seeking out perpetrators of the seven Christian deadly sins and then killing them in a manner that suits their sins. David Mills (Pitt) and William Somerset (Freeman) are the police trying to catch up with him before he completes the septet.

This is a thriller to rival Silence of the Lambs in tension; Hannibal in gore and sheer style. The characters are complex and three-dimensional, with Freeman cool and calculating as the experienced cop, Pitt headstrong and angry as the rookie, but both with something to learn from each other.

Spacey is chilling as the perpetrator, reveling in the weaknesses of his pursuers and exploring both the bigotry of religious zeal and the vacuity of our modern secular society. The ending's a bit special too.

Fight Club, The Game. Just some of David Fincher's other work. Se7en sits well in such company.
