Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny

Jack Black is back – and he’s ready to ROCK!!!! Jam packed with enough power slides to shake a stick at, Tenacious D: the Pick of Destiny tells the hilarious tale of two aspiring rockers in the form of JB (Black) and the sweet-natured KG (Kyle Gass).

JB is the black sheep in his religious family, and is punished by his hard line father for his taste in rock music. Unable to take it anymore, JB runs away to Venice beach where he meets local slacker JG, who is an experienced guitarist. Once the pair get to know each other better they decide to form Tenacious D,

When KG learns that his mother will no longer be paying for his rent, the duo realise that money needs to be made. Knowing that it’s going to takes a lot more than wacky hair and an attitude to make it as the world’s best and richest band of all time, the pair formulate a plan: they will steal a guitar plectrum fashioned from the tooth of Satan which will make their dream a reality.

For those of you who have seen School of Rock, this comedy rings similar bells, although the set up of a man in dire need of connecting with his rock desires is much more comfortable in this context. Indeed, there is no doubt that the madcap and riotous Black works amazingly well against Gass: bald, overweight and maybe even quite sad, they make one hell of a side-splitting pair to watch on screen.

The film is also overflowing with cameo appearances, ranging from Meatloaf as Black’s bible-bashing father to the Foo-Fighters’ Dave Grohl as the devil himself. He brings the movie to a thrilling climax in a rock battle with “the D”, as they like to be known.

This film may take a while to get going, but with jokes galore you’ll be smiling the whole way through. So sit back, let the good times roll and allow Tenacious D to rock your socks off!
