Review:

Homer’s stupidity is finally captured on the big screen. But this time he’s done it. Let’s just say Homer’s stuck between a rock and a hard place. Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie must all stand behind him to save the world. Because it’s imminent fate is none other but due to…Homer himself. Doh! The word ‘apology’ is tossed around a lot these days… But wait…Bart, now a member of the Flanders…is replaced in Homer’s heart by…a pig…

The best of the comedic value enjoyed weekly by viewers was saved up for the eagerly awaited cult cartoon movie. And not in 3D. No, the 2D animation classic does not fall into the ‘modern day’ trends, but instead still appeals to cinemagoers with its bold, bright, yet simple animation style. Not quite the hour long special that some were expecting, but instead a movie that shatters box hit records and receives a standing ovation from its fans.

Most of that applause goes to Silverman, formerly known as the director of Monsters inc. and The Road to El Dorado, not to mention The Simpsons TV favourites, especially the tree house of horrors. He directs the film in a way that deserves the same, if not even more, success of his previous projects. Matt Groening (Son of Homer and Margaret, brother of Maggie and Lisa) writes the movie as if it were an extract into something personal to him, and you can see the care taken into it. No one rushed the Simpsons into the cinemas for the point of it, or because ‘it was about time’. ‘When making the cartoon, Bart was originally going to be called Matt, but I felt it was too closely related’ Groeing is quoted to have said. His mad humour certainly comes out in the film, and will have you choking on your popcorn!

If you are a Simpsons Fan, then you’ve probably seen it, so don’t forget to drag your friends along again, not that they’ll need much persuasion. If you haven’t seen it, don’t miss out unless you want your Dad to strangle you!
