The Lookout
Whoever has the money has the power
Director: Scott Frank
Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jeff Daniels, Isla Fisher, Bruce McGill
Once upon a time Chris Pratt had the perfect life. He was a promising high-school athlete, he had a girlfriend, he was popular…but not all fairy tales have a happy ending. Chris falls victim to a car accident causing him a serious brain injury, so serious in fact that he loses his long-term memory. He can only depend on a notepad and his blind companion to get him through the day. But what happens when someone offers him a way out? A chance at a normal life again? Even if that chance involves robbing the bank where he works…
A film filled with special effects, drama and heart, The Lookout appeals to different types of audiences allowing for one to get completely lost in it and empathise with Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character. And why shouldn’t they? The star is only the much loved Tommy from popular TV series 3rd Rock from the Sun. Fans will definitely be surprised by his range of acting ability as he plays the morose, struggling Chris, a big change from his usual comedic, teenage roles. The great thing about this film is that it is a thriller, so it doesn’t concentrate on the hard-to-watch life of a miserable car crash victim, but follows the story of a heist, seeing how his disability works to his advantage. Wedding Crashers’ Isla Fisher also stars, bringing a slight comic touch to the underlying seriousness of the film. She is perfect for the part of Luvlee, pretty yet oblivious, and great fun to watch. Lesser known, Matthew Goode, plays a significant role as the leader of the heist, charming Chris with his web of lies and portrays a sensational ‘bad-guy’ image.
Prepare to get your hearts racing and get ready to hang on the edge of your seats. Also just have a tissue handy because you’re going to need it.
