Review:

This is the third film of the “High School Musical” series and the first to make it onto the big screen. We join Troy (Efron), Gabriella (Hudgens) and co. in their final year at East High as they make their plans to enter the world. With the prom, graduation and a class production all looming the pressure is on and the students realise that this is their last chance to decide on their future and make their friendships last.

The franchise has become known for its upbeat tempo and catchy tunes and this instalment of the series does not disappoint. A cheerful feeling is maintained throughout and the songs are as captivating as ever. There is a great mix of big band numbers and solos that help develop the lead characters. As always, the choreography is exciting to watch and helps to add to the positive mood of the film.

The cast continue to work well together on their third outing. Efron and Hudgens have a great onscreen chemistry which shines through in their duets. Tisdale is fabulous as ever as the diva Sharpay and Efron and Bleu develop their onscreen friendship and have a great scrap yard dance-off. The script allows the characters to portray many anxieties felt by real college students, like going against the wishes of a parent and being scared of moving away and losing friends.

The movie set is bright and colourful and the costumes perfectly encapsulate each character’s personality. Various settings such as the high school cafeteria, basketball court and stage are a familiar part of the franchise and give it a welcoming feeling.

“High School Musical 3” proves itself to be an upbeat and exciting movie that goes highly recommended to anyone in wish of a bright and happy movie experience.
