My Bloody Valentine
Get your Heart Broken
Tom has decided to return to his quiet homeland where the memories of the massacre which took place over a decade ago should have long faded. Unfortunately, Tom's return seems to have coincided with a repeat of the horror once caused by the long-dead miner Harry Warden. Why now? A question on all the townspeople's minds as they are slowly killed off one at a time. Surely Tom has nothing to do with it? But with only an old flame, Sarah, on his side, how can Tom prove his innocence? More important, how can he survive once more?
Definitely unexpected by critics - ‘Another slasher remake’ was the general view. How wrong they were. It's back to the old-school but it's all about what was good about the horror classics. Gory, unpretentious and the added thrill of not being able to work out the ending. And best of all, it cuts out all the rubbish stereotypes - no dumb teenagers, no obvious killer, and no boring female protagonist who goes from weakling to heroine. And even more unexpected, there’s even full nudity (hence the rating)…
Director Lussier worked as an editor for Wes Craven (the Scream trilogy) and gives us the same thrill we experienced in Craven’s series. He doesn’t dabble too long in the underlying story of the love triangle between Tom (Ackles), Sarah (King) and Axel (Smith) but gives the audience exactly what they want - shock and gore. He doesn’t only play around with 3D technology but goes back to basics, making use of old-fashioned prosthetics and still producing the desired effect for 21st century audiences.
So if you’re yearning for a good horror-movie and loved the classics, this is your movie.
