Review:

The Cobra Organisation, the arch nemesis of G.I. Joe (Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity) is on the rise, led by the notorious arms dealer, Destro. With Duke and Ripcord’s induction into the military elite, can G.I. Joe save the world from destruction? Failure is not an option.

Paramount pictures and Hasbro’s new collaboration after the success of Transformers, the American plastic heroes come to life on the big screen. No expense is spared on this blockbuster with special effects galore and hand-picked sexy Hollywood stars all led by Stephen Sommers, well-known for his direction of box-office smash-hits such as The Mummy films and Van Helsing. The $170 million budget allowed for scenes of the film to be shot in amazing locations including Egypt, the Arctic, Tokyo and even underwater. The creativity brought forward by the writers and under the direction of Sommers has led to an exciting range of gadgets and innovative spy equipment which would have 007 quaking in his boots.

The star-studded cast shine in their roles providing as much entertainment as the computer-generated effects around them. For the ladies, the stunning abs of Channing Tatum and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (aka Eko from TV Series Lost) are in full swing and likely to impress. For the guys, a catfight between Sienna Miller's and Rachel Nichols’ characters (which led to real-life injuries on set) should gain interest. But aesthetics are not the only thing to expect from the A-listers with the like of Steven Beattie (writer of Collateral) behind the script. Marlon Wayans shows he can play serious rather than funny and, as an added bonus, there’s even a cameo from Brendan Fraser.

If you’re not familiar with the franchise, not to worry: the film entertains both fans and newcomers alike and there’s already talk of sequels…
