Review:

Fun in the sun, jet skiing and a spa resort - who wouldn’t be tempted? These four couples definitely are. Only one of the couples (Bateman and Bell) is looking to actually save their marriage, but for the other three there’s no need for the island's couples therapy services; no need to fix what’s not broken. Unfortunately, they are disappointed to learn that the counselling is compulsory and even more horrified to find there are cracks in what they once thought were perfect relationships. Marcel (Jean Reno), the resort owner, forcing them to do crazy things such as swimming with sharks definitely does not help.

So, not much fun for those on the west side of the island then… but what’s happening on the east side; the banned side; the side for singles only? With the likes of Salvadore (Carlos Ponce) seducing the ladies away and the men intent on having a good time, will they ever solve their problems?

A star-studded cast takes part in this hilarious film which focuses on the trials and tribulations of trying to keep a relationship strong. Vince Vaughn pulls out all the stops by not only starring in this light-hearted comedy but also being one of the talents behind the screenplay. He tries to not fall into the trap of the usual clichés while still letting audiences recognise situations which we are all likely to find ourselves in. Akerman and Vaughn have a dream comic partnership allowing for flawless timing to get maximum laughs, and there is true chemistry between them. Kristin Davis is also a treat to watch, reminding us of the little minx she used to play in her Sex and the City days.

If you’re a fan of comedy classics such as Swingers or, more recently, The Break-up, this film is likely to be right up your street!
