Review:

For every good, there is a bad. For every super hero, a super villain. Even as a young blue boy, Megamind (Ferrell) had to put up with classmate Metro Man (Pitt). As hard as he tried, Megamind could never attain a level of “badness” that Metro Man could not conquer. Fast forward to the present and finally Megamind achieves what he’s always been longing for. Now he can wreak havoc!

Bereft of his arch nemesis, Megamind begins to take over the city. Few who previously stood against him can resist. Only reporter Roxanne Richie (Fey) will say a word against him; nothing can stand in his way! But something’s definitely not right here… something’s missing… he’s lost his raison d’être.

Realising the error of his ways, Megamind sets about putting things right. Not the conventional right for you or I, but the evil right of once more having a worthy adversary. Throw a lifelong but slightly neglected evil sidekick, and more than a hint of a crush on the film’s heroine into the mix and Megamind has a lot on his plate. And that’s before it all starts to go wrong.

There are few CGI offerings these days that can compete with the inevitable powerhouse that is a Pixar animation. In Megamind, Dreamworks have made their best attempt since Shrek. They’ve made an animation, not an outright children’s film. The results? A worthy plotline, characters you can genuinely appreciate, crisp dialogue and plenty of humour, to name but a few. Megamind is a gem of a film and if anything, best seen in 2D. Make sure you see it, because like the title character, it’s blue and it’s brilliant!
