Cars 2
Pixar are yet to have a film which was not a worldwide box office hit, and it looks like their recent production Cars 2 is no exception. Their first sequel outside the Toy Story franchise and not only are our old favourites back, Lighting McQueen and Mater, but joining them are new British spy cars, Finn McMissile (Michael Caine), Holley Shiftwell (Emily Mortimer ) and Sir Miles Axlerod (Eddie Izzard).
Our returning heroes head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race visiting France, Italy and London, even with an appearance from the Queen! But Mater unwittingly gets himself caught up in international espionage. Chases, disguises, and bombs galore; an adventure full of speeding cars and things that boom awaits in this action-packed animated thrill ride.
Pixar’s newest effort may not have the warmth or originality of their best films, but what Cars 2 lacks in innovation it makes up for in parody, as the film lovingly apes the spy genre movies of yesteryear; think James Bond meets Disney. As always the visuals are dazzling and beat out any and all competition when it comes to computer-animated entertainment, offering up beautifully rendered images of some of the world’s most famous landmarks and cities.
Cars 2 has everything you would want from a spy film, but it is also fantastically funny whilst its action sequences will keep you on the edge of your seat.
