Paranormal Activity 3
Review:
Horror fans will already be familiar with the highly successful Paranormal Activity 1 and 2. The first set up Katie and her boyfriend Mica being haunted by a malevolent presence. In the second, we learned more about Katie’s sister Kristi and her family, and why they were the ones being targeted. Now comes part 3, which takes you back to their childhood, back to where it all began...
Paranormal Activity 3 keeps what is best in the franchise: it’s a horror film that feels very real. It doesn’t exist in a parallel universe or fantasy world, but in this one. It may be shot in the past, but with people we already know and care about, and with some delightful 80’s pop culture references thrown in for good measure. The directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman worked together on the 2010 innovative reality thriller Catfish, so you can expect good things from this film. Despite the audience knowing future events, the third of the trilogy still manages to keep the tension, and be a little different from the others in the series. An innovation given to this film is the camera placed on the oscillating part of a fan, which gives an agonisingly slow panning view of the kitchen and hall; always leaving you aching to know what’s happening in the other room. More short, sharp shocks are also included. If you have a free evening, why not give Paranormal Activity 3 a try?
