A Dangerous Method
Based on the True Story of Jung, Freud and the Patient Who Came Between Them.
Cronenberg delves deeper into the analysis of the human psyche with A Dangerous Method, focusing on the lives of two of the most influential psychologists - Sigmund Freud (Mortensen) and Carl Jung (Fassbender). The film looks at the two psycho-analysts’ volatile relationship and a disturbed young woman (Knightley) who comes between them.
Boasting a terrific cast of Oscar and Golden Globe nominated actors, Cronenberg’s latest film promises to be an intriguing, dramatic and entertaining addition to his superb filmography. Focusing on a story and group of characters that have monumentally shaped the way we see ourselves, A Dangerous Method is not to be missed.
Coming off the success of two Mortensen-led films (A History of Violence and Eastern Promises) Cronenberg is developing his casting with the likes of Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley and Vincent Cassel (returning to work with Cronenberg after Eastern Promises). Every member of the cast gives a power-house performance in a film concerning lust, violence and tense relationships.
For fans of Cronenberg, A Dangerous Method inspects the greyest areas of morality and the absorbing qualities of the human mind much like his previous films have. If it is star-quality you are looking for then the film cannot disappoint, and with Fassbender giving another fantastic performance (also see Shame in Week 2 and Haywire in Week 7) and Mortensen, Knightley and Cassel proving their acting worth and cementing their star personas, you’d have to be out of your mind to miss it.
