Review:

Hitchcock follows the story of infamous director Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) and his quest to film one of the greatest horror films of all time, Psycho. After the success of North by Northwest, Hitchcock comes to a crisis as to what to do for his next film. Then he comes across an interesting novel based on killer Ed Gein and Hitchcock decides that this will be his next film. However, he must overcome financial difficulties and studio differences in order to make the film a success.

It is remarkable to watch how a film that is now viewed as one of Hitchcock’s best began with so little support or backing. The film focuses on examining the intriguing dynamics of the relationship between Hitchcock and his wife, Alma (Helen Mirren) during the filming of Psycho and the pressures it has on their relationship.

Hitchcock features an all-star cast with very strong performances, fronted by Oscar winners Hopkins and Mirren (The Silence Of The Lambs and The Queen) who provide sympathetic portrayals of the leading protagonists. Scarlett Johansson plays scream queen Janet Leigh while Jessica Biel plays Vera Miles, who are both treated very differently by Hitchcock on set. It is interesting to experience the working relationships of the actors and director and the film is a must see for any Hitchcock fan.
