The Great Gatsby
DiCaprio explodes onto the silver screen this year as the infamous Jay Gatsby, the man many a girl has dreamt about after satiating themselves on the glorious glitz and glamour of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1920s Long Island novel The Great Gatsby. This movie is truly an epic beyond limits.
Baz Luhrmann directs this exquisite retelling of the mysterious millionaire intent on winning his true love and hope; Daisy Buchanan (devastatingly already married). This tale of false hope and the American dream doesn't fail to serve the charm of the book; rarely does a movie live up to its print. Luhrmann captures the pure opulence, decadence, the extravagance and cultural thrill of 1920s New York. We see DiCaprio at his best, sending every girl's heart aflutter! His romance with Daisy (Carey Mulligan) breaks the viewer into a sweat; it is heated, passionate and heartbreaking at moments. Mulligan suits the vision of Daisy well; her sweet, delicate features matching the literary Daisy to perfection. Joined by Isla Fisher and Tobey Maguire, the cast leads this strong story with ease and the viewer melts into this fantastical world of indulgence and fun.
The soundtrack is also incredible. With remixes of Lana Del Rey, Beyoncé, Jack White and Andre 3000, it is safe to say that the executive-producers of the soundtrack, Jay Z and The Bullits, do not disappoint. This modern music accompanies Gatsby immaculately and so powerfully, bringing the visual spectaculars alive.
