Review:

An action-comedy, successfully combining elements of both into an engaging piece of film that will be unlike anything you've ever seen before.

Machete Kills features the return of Danny Trejo as Machete, an ex-Federale agent enlisted by the President of the United States (Charlie Sheen) to take down both a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer (Mel Gibson), who has a plan to spread war and anarchy around the planet. Along the way, he encounters assassins, corruption and a lunatic with more than a passing interest in Star Wars. Inspired by the fake trailers in Grindhouse, it boasts much of the same style and off-beat lunacy that was characteristic of said film.

It boasts something for everyone - a copious amount of action, a compelling and unique narrative - and one where I can honestly state you would be hard-pressed to guess what happens next at any point - and the same quirky sense of humour that made the first film so enjoyable. The ensemble cast (including Jessica Alba, Amber Heard and Antonio Banderas, to name but a few) are clearly having a great time, with chewing the scenery both prevalent and beneficial - this is the kind of film where, if you don't take it too seriously, you can lose yourself in the sheer madness of Machete's world.

Recommended for fans of action, of comedy, or to anyone who wants to try something different.
