Review:

The latest from the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks set to provide the franchise with its most relevant, serious, grounded, yet no less action packed instalment to date!

Struggling to reintegrate himself into the world, Steve Rogers (Evans) continues to fight as Captain America, now as an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Content in his servitude alongside Black Widow (Johansson), certain events soon begin to make Cap suspect all is not what it seems in the Agency he has devoted himself to. Suspicions begin with the arrival of the mysterious Winter Solider, a figure intent on destroying the foundation of America’s homeland security, but one also linked with Cap’s past. Aware that the Government has kept dangerous secrets from him, Cap finds his loyalties tested as he attempts to fight for what is right.

With Avengers 2 still a year away, now is the perfect time to satisfy that Marvel craving with Cap’s latest adventure, which aims to inject a sense of 70’s paranoia and conspiracy to the proceedings to make the film feel like an entirely different genre picture to the old-fashioned thrills of the first instalment.

With the inclusion of new exciting characters and a few surprises up its sleeve, Captain America: The Winter Solider looks set to change the fabric of the reality of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, providing its titular hero with a challenge that is both personal and detrimental to the well-being of the nation he protects.

Those familiar with the story of The Winter Solider will know how much of a risk this particular plot-line is, but will also recognize the cinematic potential within it, marking Captain America: The Winter Soldier as a superhero movie that should not be taken for granted.
