Joe
Nicholas Cage is a pure tour de force in this film; unquestionably one of his best performances in a long time. In a role that couldn't be further from his usual care-free and charming personas, he is Joe; an aging and world-weary ex-con, surviving from bottle to bottle.
His life is just getting back on track when he meets Gary (Tye Sheridan). Looking for a job, Gary's sincerity and goodness are obvious, but his violent and abusive father is slowly choking the life out of him and his family. Joe wants to protect him, but is afraid not only of what he might do if he lets "the monster" out, but also of going back to jail.
Tense, compelling and emotionally powerful, Joe will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
