Review:

One of the better teen movies to come out in this decade – and certainly the prime contender for the best musical – Pitch Perfect shines with its catchy soundtrack, pithy one liners and it’s excellently mad and diverse girl led cast.

Anna Kendrick stars as Beca, a rebellious and sassy freshman who wants to pursue a music career but ends up at the doors of the Barden Bellas, an all singing all dancing female acappella group plagued by boring, safe and repetitive songs and choreography. Beca soon finds herself caring for her Bella sisters – featuring Brittany Snow, an alumnus of cult teen movies, most famously John Tucker Must Die, and breakout star Rebel Wilson – whilst interjecting imagination and creativity into the group’s dull routines as they attempt to beat rivals, the all-male acappella group, the Treblemakers to win the Nationals.

Tapping into a genre spanning a range of music that will leave you humming classics for weeks, Pitch Perfect provides light hearted fun. Ultimately riding on the back of Glee’s singing success, Pitch Perfect proves to be much more likeable without the overpowering moral messages. With an actually interesting love interest, Skylar Astin’s Jesse, its catchy tunes and likeable cast, Pitch Perfect is one movie that hits all the right notes.
