The Judge

After hearing that his mother has passed away, the rather shady lawyer Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.) heads back to his hometown in Indiana. This only leads to friction between him and his father, Judge Joseph Palmer (Robert Duvall), who strongly disapproves of his son’s morally questionable activities. But the situation soon changes when Joseph gets arrested for a hit-and-run death and Hank, against his father’s wishes, takes on the case as his father’s legal representative.

Brilliantly cast, with superb performances from Downey Jr and the legendary Duvall, The Judge explores the story of a family whose discordance goes beyond merely a father’s disapproval of his son’s career.
