Newly- married and madly in-love, George and Serena Pemberton are establishing a timber empire in the North Carolina Mountains. But George’s ambitious and idyllic life is greatly affected by his marriage to Serena. He soon discovers that his wife is unable to bear any children after a tragic miscarriage. The outspoken Serena then becomes increasingly jealous of the woman who previously bore her husband an illegitimate son. Soon her jealousy turns murderous.
