Always getting into trouble as a child, Louis "Louie" Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) is encouraged to focus his energies in a more productive direction by his older brother. With his support, Louie takes up running and qualifies for the 1936 Olympics. But when World War 2 breaks out, he signs up to the U.S army and is thrown into the perils of war. His plane crashes into the Pacific and incredibly Louie manages to survive 47 days at sea in a raft.
