Far From the Madding Crowd
Thomas Hardy’s nineteenth century literary classic tells the tale of the headstrong and beautiful Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan). The heiress of a sheep farm at the age of 18, Bathsheba has her own property and independence - making her an attractive suitor for eligible bachelors. She finds herself torn between three different suitors: a wealthy, older bachelor (Michael Sheen), a handsome soldier (Tom Sturridge) and a sheep farmer (Matthias Schoenaerts).
Carey Mulligan gives a fantastic portrayal of Bathsheba, capturing her strong and resilient spirit beautifully. Overall, it’s emotionally stirring and brilliantly paced, never falling into the superficial cliches of romantic films with its depth and complexity.
