Review:

Steven Spielberg is back with the highly anticipated fourth edition to the dinosaur series Jurassic Park.

Set twenty years after the original installation, the abandoned park is re-opened and is surprisingly successful under the new management following the death of John Hammond. In fact, the park is so successful that a new hybrid dinosaur is created to be the new star attraction: the Indominus Rex. As always, however, the consequences of meddling with nature prove to be disastrous when the Indominus Rex escapes.

Chris Pratt stars as the former Marine turned raptor trainer who teams up with Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), a career driven operations manager, to rescue her nephews who were visiting the park for a fun weekend away- sound familiar?

With holograms replacing bone skeletons and moving glass balls replacing the cars, the film places a lot of emphasis on how modern the park (and today’s world) has become. This serves to instill a false confidence and an illusion of control to create that well known dramatic irony which is synonymous with this series. However, the film stays loyal to its roots featuring classic scenes from the first film such as the former centre and the return of the famous jeeps offering a touch of nostalgia for the audience. This is further emphasised in the return of John Williams’ famous soundtrack.

So if you’re looking for an action filled adventure with lots of screaming, running and teeth or just a dino-fan this film won’t disappoint.

Lauren Howard
