Dope

High school is tough for Malcolm (Shameik Moore) and his two best friends, Jib (Tony Revolori) and Diggy (Kiersey Clemons). He dreams of going to Harvard, but he is surrounded by a neighbourhood of gangster culture. When they find themselves at a drug dealer’s (A$AP Rocky) birthday party, things go south and accidentally end up in the middle of a gang war. This slippery slope leads to an adventure of experimentation, self-discovery and friendship. Dope impressed audiences in its premiere at Sundance, with its hilarious script and brilliant performances in this coming-of-age crime/comedy/drama. A revolutionary film about geeks obsessed with 90s hip hop culture, we should expect to see actor Moore appear in big things and filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa continuing to create funky fresh stories.
