Review:

Matt Damon stars as Mark Watney in this epic sci-fi story of a man’s mission to stay alive on mars. As a dust storm hits the landing site, Watney’s team are forced to take off and abort their mission. During the storm, Watney is impaled by an aerial and the crew believe him to be dead. Alone and abandoned, Watney is forced to survive on mars and uses his skills as a botanist and an engineer to grow potatoes and make water in the ‘martian habitat’ or ‘the Hab’.

Seeing his activity on the satellite images, NASA begins to plan a rescue but decide not to tell Watney’s crew that he survived. Meanwhile, Watney is busy planning his own rescue as he endeavours to cross the terrain to a seconding landing site which was planned to be used in four years time. He also manages to salvage the mars rovers in order to establish communication with Earth. However, time is a luxury Watney cannot afford. The climate he is faced with on this planet tears up the Hab and destroys his food source. With every attempt to send him supplies proving unsuccessful, drastic measure need to be taken to get this man home.
