The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2
The closing entry of The Hunger Games series, Mockingjay Part 2 continues from its predecessors in its brutal efficiency in culling characters, this time proving unafraid of sacrificing fan favourite characters to the machinery of war. This bleakness is befitting the nature of the series; a true happy ending for all of the protagonists would have felt false, particularly when the series confronts the grey morality of said protagonists.
Indeed, the debate over morality and ideology simmer under the quick pace of the plot as Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) tires of simply being the mouthpiece of the rebellion and abandons her Alma Coin (Julianne Moore) approved mission of propaganda filming to lead her team into the front line of the battle. From here, the film relishes in its action sequences and we get to witness the payoff from Mockingjay Part 1’s anti-climax.
The book Mockingjay may not have been the best received in Suzanne Collins trilogy but the film manages to succeed in providing a satisfying conclusion to the film series as the cast all relish in their last outing.
