The Legend of Tarzan
Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz), an envoy for Belgian King Leopold, is eager to obtain some diamonds for his monarch from a Congolese tribe – in exchange for the jewels, the chief demands that Rom delivers an old enemy to him – Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgård). Now going by John Clayton III, Tarzan has left Africa to live in Victorian England with his wife Jane (Margot Robbie) – however, he is soon lured back to his homeland along with American envoy George Washington Williams (Samuel L. Jackson) to investigate a mining encampment, and face an enemy that threatens to enslave the entire country. The Legend of Tarzan offers an interesting take on the story, reworking it to help make the Ape-Man more accessible to a modern audience. Fortunately, it doesn’t remove what has always been the most important part of Tarzan – the visually spectacular nature of the jungle, and slick action sequences that’ll have you on the edge of your seat. It is also helped that Tarzan is surrounded by a bunch of strong characters – Waltz is a villain, because that’s what he does, and Samuel L. Jackson adds a lot of fun. As has always been the case, Tarzan in the jungle makes for top blockbuster fare.
