Review:

Based on three short stories from the book Runaway, this intriguing film weaves a tale of the bond between an estranged daughter and mother. Julieta (Emma Suarez) is a middle aged woman, on the verge of moving to Portugal with her boyfriend, has a chance encounter with her estranged daughter’s best friend, Bea (Michelle Jenner). Learning that her daughter is married in Switzerland with three children, Julieta decides to stay back in Spain and wait for any form of communication from her daughter who has been totally absent for the last 12 years. Slowly derailing into a terrible loneliness, Julieta starts to write down her memories and confront her past. The audience is provided with a beautiful flashback of the gripping love story between Julieta and Xoan, a Galician fisherman, and the fatal accident that changed the course of their lives. The film carries its viewers deep into the past, with gentle reminders of Julieta’s middle-aged brokenhearted form, to create an emotionally wrecking masterpiece.
