Alien: Covenant
Run
The newest instalment in the Alien franchise is set directly after the events of Prometheus, although, thankfully, it rewrites many of the sins of its predecessor. A crew of settlers, helmed by Billy Crudup’s captain and Katherine Waterston (who will also be co-starring in Logan Lucky this year), land on a new planet after hearing a suspicious signal in the depths of space. The reward for their curiosity/stupidity? The planet is, of course, infested with Xenomorphs!
While much of the film has a Prometheus feel to it, and does include a much more interested focus on the returning Michael Fassbender (who plays two characters in this movie), it steers away from what sank Prometheus. Covenant is perhaps the goriest Alien movie yet and the pacing, tension and horror marks a return to form for Ridley Scott. It’s definitely a movie of two halves, xeno-morphing into a more traditional Alien movie at the end for the grand finale.
Fans of the franchise are going to be impressed with the latest instalment and first time viewers (where have you been? Go watch Alien!) are going to see The Perfect Organism in all of her glory in Covenant.
