Happy Death Day
Get Up. Live Your Day. Get Killed. Again.
Ever feel like you're reliving the same day over and over again? That's exactly the problem our (anti-)hero (Jessica Rotherham - La La Land) faces and it's killing her...
Each day she wakes up in the same frat boy's room, half-naked and hungover from the might before, and each day ends with her death! However, the frat boy gives her an idea - maybe if she can work out who keeps killing her, she can break the cycle...
For most people, this would be a short list, but Tree Gelbman is the girl you love to hate. Callous, malicious, manipulative... Rude and hateful to those she doesn't know, and going out of her way to spite some of the equally odious sorority sisters she lives with. There are literally dozens of suspects, but each time the clock resets, she's coming back more and more damaged...
The cinematography is slick and quite inventive, and the director Christopher Landon gives a delightfully light-hearted comic tone to the film. The protagonist is sharp, asking all the questions the viewer wants to, and even has a little fun with her zero-consequences predicament. A refreshing twist to a genre that feels like it's been done to death.
