Professor Marston and the Wonder Women
Ever wonder?
If Wonder Woman and Justice League left you wanting you more…
The origin story of the Wonder Woman comics is nearly as fascinating as those of its heroine. Written under a pseudonym by William Moulton Marston (Luke Evan - Beauty and the Beast), a highly respected Psychology professor in Harvard in the 40’s, working alongside his wife Elizabeth (Rebecca Hall - Christine, Iron Man 3), strong, tenacious and also a brilliant psychologist (though denied professorship due to being a woman).
Their happy home is rocked by the arrival of one of William’s students, Olive Byrne (Bella Heathcote - Pride and Prejudice and Zombies). Pretty, blonde, demure yet complicated, she catches his eye and is hired as a research assistant. During late night sessions testing his new invention, the ‘lie detector’, an intimacy between them all develops into a three-way love affair. Inspired by his two loves, a lifelong fascination with S&M, and his developing psychological theories of fulfilment from submission, Wonder Woman is born!
Director Angela Robinson, gets the most out of the leads, though Rebecca Hall, as always, is captivating and multi-layered as his wife, love and intellectual collaborator. This is a warm, intelligent and thoughtful drama, that’s both romantic and fabulously sexy.
