The Post
Truth be told
In the 1970’s, one of the greatest cover-ups in history came to light: not one but four presidents lied to the American public about the futility of the Vietnam war.
Scooped by The Times on this, Kay Graham (Meryl Streep), head of The Washington Post, from her late husband, is determined to compete, and with help from her editor Ben Bradlee, finds the source and the complete set of the highly classified documents from the Pentagon.
With increasing pressure brought to bear from the government, The Post is barred from publishing any classified documents dealing with the Vietnam War, and Graham is faced with a huge choice: Hide what she knows about the Vietnam War from the American people, or lose her newspaper, and face jail time for herself and colleagues!
Impossible as it sounds, this is the first film to feature Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. The director of Schindler’s List reminds us that he can handle historical dramas as well as he handles family-friendly adventures; and Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia!, Suffragette) and Tom Hanks (Sully, The Green Mile) both give stellar performances, as always.
