Review:

Annie (Rachel McAdams – Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Strange) and Max (Jason Bateman – Horrible Bosses, Arrested Development) love games! They met during a pub quiz and have had weekly game nights ever since with their friends. Their lives are perfect, except maybe for Max’s brother, Brooks, who’s a big success, and rubs it in Max’s face every chance he gets.

Brooks comes to town, hi-jacks game night to his palatial apartment and promises a game night to trump all others! Real actors are hired for an interactive, live-action murder mystery, for the grand prize of a Stingray (Max’s dream car, of course)! While the group are enjoying nibbles, an FBI agent shows up at the house, to be promptly assaulted by two masked assailants who kidnap Brooks. Things start rapidly spiralling out of control, but this is all just part of the game… isn’t it?

Game Night is a refreshing comedy, poking fun at people’s foibles, pushing boundaries and laugh-out-loud funny, without resorting to cheap toilet humour. The film feels quite grounded, while occasionally visiting the absurd for comic effect. So, dust off your Scrabble, grab your Jenga blocks, and join us for Game Night!
