Tag
Based on a True Story. We're Not Kidding.
Life has scattered a bunch of childhood friends across the States, but every May without fail, they reassemble for a month-long game of Tag! While the game is no holds barred and has been running for 35 years, one among them has emerged unscathed. Jerry (Jeremy Renner – Captain America: Civil War) has used paid decoys, booby traps, and even learnt a number of martial moves which meant he can repel attackers without ever touching their naked flesh. (The lengths he goes to occasionally make the rest of the gang wonder if he’s a sociopath, though they’re not exactly much better…) Hiding behind cars, donning elaborate disguises, stings – anything is fair game, when this game is anything but. Now threatening to retire from gameplay, this is their last chance!
There’s not much leeway for innovation in a film like ‘Tag’, but Jeff Tomsic makes the inspired choice of casting ‘serious’ actors Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Jake Johnson, and Jeremy Renner in comedic roles (though they’ve all proved their mettle), as well as experienced comedic leads Ed Helms (Hangover), Hannibal Buress (Secret Life of Pets), Jake Johnson (New Girl). Brace yourself for plenty of laughs throughout, with the best saved till last.
