The Happytime Murders
No Sesame. All Street.
From the director of The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island, are the muppets as you’ve never seen them before - complete with crime and a seedy underbelly. Set in a world where muppets are just as real as humans, though viewed as second-class citizens, human detective Connie Edwards (Melissa McCarthy - Bridesmaids) is assigned to a double homicide in a low-rent dive puppet-populated part of LA.
Someone is running round murdering muppets from a 90’s TV show The Happytime Gang, but why? Ex-detective turned gumshoe Phil Philips (voiced by long-time muppeteer Bill Barretta) reluctantly pairs up again with his former partner, Connie, in order to clear his name and catch his brother’s killer.
McCartney’s in her element, and is surrounded by fellow comedy veterans, Elizabeth Banks (Hunger Games) and Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids) but the main source of laughs is from just how wrong it feels seeing muppets swearing, drinking, belching, carrying guns, using prostitutes and taking drugs. Luckily, this never gets old…
