The Old Man & the Gun
This story is mostly true
The Old Man & the Gun follows ‘the Over-the-Hill Gang’, a trio of elderly criminals led by Forrest Tucker (the legendary Robert Redford in his final acting credit), as they travel the States robbing banks. Meanwhile, a detective dissatisfied with his job (Casey Affleck) tries to hunt them down. The story itself, based on real events, is brilliant, but what really makes the film special is its characters, and the interactions between them. The relationship between Tucker and his budding love interest Jewel (Sissy Spacek), for instance, is played incredibly well by both actors. What’s more, the film manages to look and sound truly lovely, too, in a way that really sticks with you.
Short and sweet, The Old Man & the Gun is a lovely film that is well worth your time, and also acts as a fitting send-off to Redford.
