Mandy
A lumberjack goes postal after the death of his girlfriend in this weird and wonderful tale of revenge!
Mandy (Andrea Riseborough – Oblivion) is walking home one night and unfortunately catches the eye of cult leader, Jeremiah Sand. Tripping on bad LSD, he and some of his followers, invade her home, tie up Mandy and her lumberjack boyfriend, Red, and torture her to death while he can only watch helplessly…
Later, when Red is forced to tear himself free from his barbed wire bonds, something inside him snaps! In his blind rage-filled quest for vengeance, he savages a blood-soaked path of stomach-churning violence. Just when you were thinking that this film couldn’t get any better unless the lead was Nicholas Cage – wait for it – yes, he is! Much parodied, often derided, he brings his own inimitable dementedness to the film, and much like the chainsaw he’s so proficient with, he really goes to town with it!
There are quite a few laughs too, from the sometimes whimsical dialogue or situations stretching to the absurd. Juxtapose this with an ethereal and haunting visuals, and voyages into surreal and phantasmagoric imagery (which surely led to its nomination for the Sundance Festival Official Selection Award), this really must be seen to be believed!
