CODA
Every family has its own language.
As a CODA, child of deaf adults. seventeen-year-old Ruby’s (up-and-coming Emilia Jones) life revolves around being a translator for her deaf parents and brother, and helping out the family’s struggling fishing business. Her family are happy with how things are and want things to stay the same forever. However, joining the choir to spend more time with a crush makes Ruby realise that singing is her passion, and inspired by her music teacher, she wants to go to music college. But following her dreams means putting herself at odds with her family and is putting their livelihood at risk…
Winning a number of awards from Sundance Film Festival, this is a welcome showcase for three deaf actors of considerable talent, including Marlee Matlin (L Word / West Wing).
