Review:

Inspired by the Technicolor melodramas of Douglas Sirk et al, Haynes dials up every primary colour for his elaborately conceived film – so meticulously earnest that it verges on pastiche. The film keeps in focus the issues of racism and homophobia which put pressure on her romantic and family life, while maintaining a careful eye for period detail and recreation.
