FREE FOR MEMBERS: Parasite
A poor family in South Korea, the Kims barely make ends meet, stealing wifi and getting most of their meagre income through folding boxes for a pizza company. However, things all change when Ki-Woo’s friend gets him a tutoring job for a well-off family. This easy job brings home a tidy wage, but the family is so rich and so gullible that Ki-Woo can’t help but use fake aliases to get his entire family jobs working in the household. However, with Ki-Woo falling in love with his tutee and an ex-employee threatening to expose the truth, it’s not long before their web of lies is stretched to breaking point…
A dazzling social satire with a dark sense of humour, Boon Jong Ho’s film took home 4 Academy awards and the Palme D’Or from Cannes. The direction is deft, and the characters compelling. Perhaps the most unpredictable film in the last few years, Parasite is definitely one to watch.
